Respite Care


Respite Care Parent:
Respite Care Parent provides foster parents and other caregivers with short-term care services that offer temporary relief, and improve family stability by giving foster parents a resting period. Respite can be planned or offered during emergency situations.


Becoming A Respite Care Parent
Becoming a respite care foster parent is simple. If you’re interested in joining an elite group of foster parents, meeting the eligibility requirements is the first step in the process.

You must meet the following requirements to become a Respite Care foster parent:

• You must be at least 21 years of age.
• You must be in good physical and emotional health.
• You must have access to reliable transportation.
• You must be married (if applicable) for at least one year.
• You must be financially secure with adequate resources.
• You must be willing to participate in a required criminal and child protective services background check.
• You must be willing to participate in a required home-study evaluation.
• Willing to participate in our required foster parent training.
• Committed to implementing treatment plans.

Flexible and understand the unpredictable of being a foster parent. Although foster parenting may be temporary care, it may require a permanent commitment to the child.

When you make a decision to become a foster parent – you need guidance. At Family First Children Services, Inc., we are committed to offering our foster parents all the support they need to be successful. You will not take this journey alone. Our professional team and extended support system will assist you, the child, and the birth parents throughout the entire fostering experience. Our holistic approach is designed at meeting the child’s needs and hopefully reunifying the family.

Our foster parents can expect the following:

• Informational meetings for individuals interested in fostering.
• 24 Hours of free, Pre-service Training required by the State of Virginia.
• Ongoing support and direct access to the child’s support network including social workers, birth parents and other family members.
• Connections with Support Groups
• Ongoing Training
• After Hours Emergency Case Management Services
• Transportation
• Monthly Parent Network Social
• Financial Reimbursement
